Can't Get By Without a Little Help from Our "Friends"

Since 2005, the Cleveland Farmers Market has been a leader in the Delta by providing fresh foods grown by our neighbors to our neighbors. The fresh foods that vendors supply our community not only puts tastier, healthier meals on our tables, but also feeds our spirits in a way that no other food store can.

The Friends of the Cleveland Farmers Market group has been there every step of the way. Friends of the Farmers Market can help in numerous ways, but most volunteer at our 'Friends' tent every market day to say hello to the customers, recruit new friends, sell our reusable shopping bags and t-shirts, and help keep some simple tallies on the number of folks stopping by the market. Without a little help from our “Friends,” we would have a very hard time keeping the market going.

The Cleveland Farmers Market warmly welcomes you to join us for the 2012 Season. The Market opens on Saturday, April 21st at the Crosstie Arts and Jazz Festival from 9AM-4PM. We will be located in the parking lot of Mississippi Grounds on Court Street, to the south of the courthouse. After April 21st, the market will be open regularly on Wednesdays from 4PM-6PM at Mississippi Grounds, and on Saturdays from 8AM-Noon behind the Cleveland Post Office. Print or download the "Friends" sign-up form now!

If you have any questions about the schedule or other market operations please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you again, and we look forward to another rewarding season of fresh food, community, health, and fun at the Cleveland Farmers Market!

Respectfully,
Ryan Betz

Important (FREE) Workshop for Growers/Farmers/Landowners THIS WEEKEND

This Saturday is a free training presented by Delta Fresh Foods, the UM Transactional Law Clinic and Delta Directions on how you may be able to gain clear title to “heir” property and how proper estate planning can greatly benefit you and your family.

Saturday, March 17 from 9am – 12 pm
Cutrer Mansion, 109 Clark Street, Clarksdale

Following lunch, meet with Ole Miss and Harvard Law students about potentially receiving free help from the Ole Miss Transactional Clinic

- With clear title, you may be able to receive federal assistance, such as USDA grants or disaster relief.

- With good planning, you can pass on your property in a way that makes it more valuable to your loved ones.

- Learn how you may be able to preserve your land as agricultural land, so others can farm it in years to come.

Be a Friend or Vendor during the 2012 Season!

The Cleveland Farmers Market wouldn't be around without a little help from our Friends (our market volunteers) and the good foods provided by our wonderful vendors who live throughout the Delta. Now's your opportunity to sign up to play an active role in the Market!

You can download the Friends Form and the Vendor Form online. (Just click the highlighted names of the forms in the previous sentence.) Also, both the Friends and Vendor forms for 2012 are available at the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and Bolivar County MSU Extension Building. Once you've completed one or both, please feel free to either:

- scan and email it to clevelandfarmersmarket@gmail.com

- mail to "Cleveland Farmers Market 216 N. First Ave, Cleveland, MS 38732

- or bring it to the "Friends" Tent on a market day (Remember, our first is Saturday, April 21st at the Crosstie Arts and Jazz Festival, so we'll need some good folks to help then!)

Please share these forms with others. Thank you in advance for your gracious support! Let's make this season the best yet!

Be Excited, the 2012 Cleveland Farmers Market Season Is Almost Here

With the weather warming and sun shining, who can't resist the urge to put on some boots, rustle about the shed, dust off some tools, and dive into the dirt of their garden? But if gardening isn't your thing, don't fret, the 2012 Season of the Cleveland Farmers Market is right around the corner!

The market will be opening its 2012 season on Saturday, April 21 from 9AM-4PM at the 43rd Annual Crosstie and Arts Festival. Market vendors will be set up on the grassy area beside the Mississippi Grounds Coffee Shop (which is also the new Wednesdays market location.) We are still recruiting vendors for the April 21st kickoff, so please, please, PLEASE help us spread the word. We'll also need Friends of the Farmers Market to volunteer at our 'Friends' tent to say hello to the customers, recruit new friends, sell bags and t-shirt, and keep some simple tallys on folks stopping by the market. Please feel free to contact the market manager if you or someone you know would like to be a vendor or a volunteer:

Saturday, June 25 market

The Cleveland Farmers Market will be open tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. behind the Cleveland post office. We are a rain or shine market so please stop by even if the weather doesn't look perfect. The market also accepts WIC vouchers and SNAP EBT. There will be yellow squash cookies at the Friends tent.

From Ryan, the market manager extraordinaire: The Cleveland Farmer’s Market is writing a cookbook! Be a part of it by submitting a recipe using at least one ingredient that can be found at the market. (hint, we sell eggs, honey, herbs, jams, jellies, and lots of fresh vegetables.} Submit a recipe and you will be entered in a drawing for a tee shirt with the new market logo.

There are two ways to submit your recipe. You can email it to Cameron McMillen at edyecameron@cableone.net(which gives you two chances for the drawing) or submit it in writing at the friends tent at the market (which gives you one chance for the drawing.)

The deadline for submitting your recipe is Saturday July 16, 2011 but don’t wait – we can only use 150 recipes. Each recipe will be published with the name of the person who submitted it.

We could use some volunteers on Saturdays and Wednesdays to keep track of how many customers come to the market. These statistics are vital for grant-writing, improving the market, publicizing, and recruiting new vendors. If you've got a free Saturday morning or a free Wednesday afternoon, then you're hired! Call or email me or Ryan.
